Cristen Cable Dancing

Cristen’s Stars of Newcastle Dance for Cancer Council campaign came to a glamorous end on June 17th at the NEX Centre as she waltzed her way to an amazing result! It was a night of fun, glitz and dancing where three expert judges gave critique and a final score to each contestant. Cristen’s ballroom debut with partner and instructor, Alan, from Newcastle Dance Academy scored straight 9s from all three judges, with adjectives like “beautiful” and “seamless” used in abundance. The training was rigorous, with 3 months of dance lessons, but the hard work paid off. While she felt predominately relieved when the performance was finished, this entire experience has been life changing for Cristen.

Like most of the stars involved, Cristen has been personally impacted by cancer, having a grandmother who was a cancer survivor, and also losing a grandmother and cousin to this awful illness. It’s no surprise that the work of Cancer Council is a cause close to her heart, and being involved in the Stars of Newcastle has been a real privilege for Cristen. “I’d really like to thank my family and my work family for being my support team. We are all so grateful for the support of those who donated to the cause, or sponsored our fundraising events in the lead up to the event,” said Cristen of her experience.

The dancing was a treat to watch but the biggest news of the night was that the final combined fundraising total reached $240,000! This is a fantastic achievement, with the money staying in the Hunter to help local families impacted by Cancer.
